The engine delivers 100kW and 143Nm through the slick-shifting 6-speed transmission and sends the power via shaft drive to the rear wheel. BMW says that the RT should return 4.7 litres per 100 km from the 29-litre tank which means that if you ride conservatively you can get 450km on a fill-up.
This is the same engine used in the new R1250GS, and produces a BMW-claimed output of 136 horsepower and 105 lbs.-ft. of torque from 1,254 cc. The 1250 is significantly more powerful and torquey compared to the 1200. In real world conditions the K16 may just have the edge on torque, but in terms of power there is nothing in it. Also in terms of everyday rideabilty the 1250 beats the K16 hands down. 2003 R1150RT & 2017 R1200RT.
