The Canon EOS R7 surpasses the Canon EOS R6 Mark II in video capabilities, scoring 91/100 compared to the R6 Mark II’s score of 83/100. Both cameras share common specifications, including a maximum video resolution of 4K and dimensions of 3840 x 2160. Additionally, each camera possesses built-in time-lapse functionality.
The Canon R7 isn't meant for action video, though it does a good job if you want to record the action from the sidelines. It has plenty of frame rate options, including a high frame rate mode in 1080p for super slow-motion clips at 120 fps. However, it isn't the most portable camera and isn't designed to be mounted to action video rigs.
R6 II is the way to go for speed, a7 IV for dynamic range and overall image quality. Mainly for video purposes but also true for stills, it’s just less significant. Reason being that Canon has faster readout speed, which means less rolling shutter, but they sacrificed dynamic range to achieve that.
However the R6 Mk2 has a very noticeable improvement over both of the other cameras. I also had to look at files from all three cameras using my Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 at ISO 100 on daylight photos. Pretty much the same results for noise and/or pixelization.
The Canon EOS R6 II and Sony Alpha 7 IV are similarly capable cameras with a few differentiators. Both are good values, and either is a great choice. Summary. The R6 isn't useless for video if it hits the overheating threshold; it can still record at 1080p. But that's not up to snuff for professional productions in 2020.
